Curiosity is a large part of the human psyche. Human  beings  seldom stop thinking, asking  questions  or wanting to learn. It’s never too late to find out more! MALA can challenge you to keep the grey cells ticking over!

MALA is a Western Australian organisation intended to provide opportunities for people to expand and enrich their knowledge in a friendly, social environment. It is for those who recognise that learning is a lifelong process, desire to keep their minds active and would like to find some practical ways to do so.

MALA provides learning experiences in a relaxed environment. Every year since 1980 in the Perth area (more recently in Mandurah - the Peel District - and in Rockingham) we have sponsored stimulating educational studies for mature people. During that time thousands have enjoyed our programs. Short courses are held once a week over two ten week semesters each year. Lectures are based on an exceptionally wide range of topics delivered by experts in their various fields.

For the special attention of all members

As soon as possible MALA is required by the Dept of Consumer Protection to adopt a Constitution consistent with their requirements. Members from the three branches have been involved in modifying the present document in order to met the needs of MALA with its three separate branches. Through your branch you will be asked to become formally involved. Please assist us to meet this requirement by whatever means are devised to pass a resolution ensuring our legality. Notes about ways and means of completing this task will be published on the branch news pages as they become available.

A new page “MALA Constitution” has been added to the website containing the wording of the proposed document. It may also be downloaded for printing by clicking on the link

Big Award for MALA veteran Leader

Congratulations to Hazel Butorac for being inducted into the Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame.

Hazel has worked in a voluntary capacity for many organisations and agencies over much of her life. She much deserves this recognition and we are fortunate that some of this energy has been devoted to MALA over many years. She has been President of MALA Perth and was a driving force in the establishment of MALA Peel.
